Ol's Dirty Bastard Dead at 35

This man was a genius:

When MTV News followed him around at the height of his
popularity, he took the camera crew and several of his kids (he was said to
have more than a dozen, by numerous mothers) to the welfare office — in
a limousine — to get an allotment of food stamps.
And he received them.

It's hard to say how such a misogynistic, incoherent and violent person captivated my imagination as a teenager, but ODB was the GOD to me. He kept it raw and he kept it real. God bless Russel Jones.

News Roundup

  • Lindsay and Wilmer breakup. Thank God!!! Lindsay, you're too good for him honey, and that's not saying alot.
  • Scott Peterson is guilty. I thought it would be an acquittal. Not that I think he didn't do it, but after the Bush win, how could I expect justice?
  • Ashcroft expresses disdain towards judges critical of the Bush Administration. It's beginning to look alot like Kristallnacht.
  • Big butts are back.

Hillary 2008?

Robert Novak just announced a segment coming up on Crossfire about who's running in 2008 and salivating about the prospect of a Hillary run. This follows his speculation at the beginning of the show that Edwards is gearing up for a run in 2008. Obviously for the perpetually nasty element of the Repugs, this will be their sideshow for the next 2 years.

Warning to Democrats, do not let the Repug talking heads control this debate. They want it to make sound like you have no hope of running a candidate that America hasn't seen and rejected yet. By poisoning the discourse with rumours of Hillary 2008, even if true, Novak and his ilk are trying to produce an air of inevitability about a Hillary run, knowing full well Hillary would go down in flames in a national campaign.

In 2 years when the mid-terms are over, the process will begin to select the next Democratic candidate. There is much speculation that this next candidate should come from the south, rather than the coast. Hillary has now become much more identified with the coastal blue states than with her original home state of Arkansas. The idea of a Hillary run may be seductive, but not realistic in terms of winning.
